That was George Fenemin (spelling??)  who 'M-C' d with Groucho.

Your bit on Castro is well-timed.  He HAS been doing well...I must admit. He could be the real McCoy, which will make me look pretty bad.  We'll see.

Hi JD;

On Saturday the Bobsey twins each had four hits for five at bats. The only downside, to the weekend, was that Big Z (Zambrano), my favorite Cub went off the deep end ala Jimmy Persal. Damn!

Sincerely;

D

Hi JD;

This is nice company...Castro recorded his 300 hit, on Friday, at the age of 21 yrs and 148 days. Guess who was the youngest? AL Kaline, @ 20 yrs and 236 days followed by Robin Yount, Cesar Cedeno, Adriaan Beltere (21/137)  and Ken Griffey Jr. (21/140).

To paraphrase Tina Turner: What's luck got to do with it?

Sincerely;

Dan

Daniel Gould to Jim Driscoll

Hi JD;

Sure did! But like I said before, he collected about 18 errors in the first months of the season; and three in the last six weeks or so. He is young and inexperienced. What is important, when you analyze his errors, is that you see he goes for everything. He is a real hustler. And his raw talent is obvious. Yesterday, he had a lead-off homerun; his eight homerun of the year. He had a total of three last season in 124 games.

Sincerely

Dan

A real hustler....who doesn't pay attention to the game.  Dangerous.

Hi JD;

Aaaaah, so that's where we differ in a big way if you will pardon the pun. I like small tits and small asses. I didn't begin my sexual active life that way. It was only through experience with various sizes of boobs that I came to appreciate the diminutive sized ones. The reason was that those ladies were better lovers. My theory is that women with big breast develop early---13, 14 and 15 years of age. Older "men," of 17, 18 and 19, hit on them because they are insecure around females of their own age. As a result, the younger girls are pawed over and used. Whereas, their antitheists, are not discovered until they are in their late teens or early 20s. In the meantime, while awaiting discovery, they sit at home reading books that get them hot and bothered and learn that it takes two to make for good sex. So by the time men begin the pursuit, they are ready to play the physical game and know the moves.

Hey, I gotta view on nearly everything...

...And while I'm here, I got a couple of recommendations for you. About a week or so ago, I finished "A Given Day," by Dennis Lahane. I made this notation on the inside of the back cover: "Excellent! Superb writing; great story and a history lesson---both social and baseball." Also, I found at a used bookstore two detective novels by Crabbe Evers and it is his "Duffy House" series: "Fear in Fenway" and "Tigers Burning." Both are gumshoe genré books with baseball as the backstop.

Sincerely;

Dan

Hi JD;

...And now on the lighter side of life...sorta...

I mentioned the book "Tigers Burning," By C. Evers. I am 50 pages into it and found two quotes thought you might like. Both refer to the realities of Detroit: #1. "This is Detroit, guys. Think the worst." #2. "The whole center city of Detroit in midmorning had the feel of a big city---one situated in the Upper Peninsula."

The premise of the story is that the owner of the Tigers wants a new stadium to replace Tiger/Briggs Stadium. Lots of Tiger trivia and great lore and as I said I am only 20% into it.

Sincerely;

Dan

There's one thing you HAVE been right on, it seems, no matter how doubtful I have been....STARLIN CASTRO.

That boy can play!!!    His rookie season has ben phenominal.  200+ hits, a little power, great SS range....the whole package, it surely appears.

HI JD;

Aaaaah, a subject that we have NO disagreements....Oooops, that ain't so!

You are a LA Angels' fan; an American league team. Therefore you are one of those "liberals" that I loathe since you support major changes in the way the traditional game is played. I refer, of course, to the designated hitter rule. This is one of the reasons I adopted a National League team. I know, I know, you say that we baseball "conservatives" want to linger in baseball trivia, tradition and standards that no longer reflect the modern age.  How true...And I am guilty!

Anyway, from the book Tigers Burn: "Lefty Gomez said, 'Charlie Gehringer is in a rut. He hits .350 on Opening Day and stays there all season.'"  Also, in the book, Alter Road, Windmill Point, Drexel and Lakeview play a role.

As the major league season winds down let's go back to your predictions regarding the Bobsy Twins (Castro and Barney). You said they would fade by the end of September. Half right and half wrong. Castor---with three games remaining---has 204 hits; has reached base safely in the last 38 consecutive games; nine triples, 10 home runs and is batting .307...And still only 21. Barney, well, he has "dipped:" he is batting .278 and has nine triples. But batting .278 is a very respectible statistic for a second basemen; and considering that this is his rookie year, all I can say is that I am looking to the future with great expectations.

And there is more from the lowly Cubs...They brought up Bryan LaHair from the Pacific Coast League a few weeks back. He hit 38 homers and batted .350+  there. In 17 games, in the big leagues, he has had 48 at bats and is batting .354 with two home runs, each of which won their respective games.

Life is good...

Sincerely;

Dan

 ****   I'VE ALREADY SENT YOU MY MEA CULPAS ON CASTRO.

 ****   IT IS IMPOSSIBLEE TO HIT .350 ON OPENING DAY.

 ****   I DO NOT LIKE THE DH RULE, EITHER.   LIKING THE ANGELS DOES NOT TRANSLATE INTO LIKING THE RULES OF THE LEAGUE THEY P[LAY IN.

 ****   THE CUBS, EVEN WITH THESE GOOD ROOKIES....STILL STINK.................
