Hi JD;
I am not surprised by you being enamored with the "Dirty Harry" series. When the first came out, one of my intellectual friends labeled it "Fascist!" Indeed. It further colored my opinion of Eastwood until I saw "Play Misty..." Either his perceptions have been altered over the years or mine have harden...But, what the hell...Make my day!
Sincerely;
Dan

"OUTLAW JOSIE WALES"...is one of the finest Westerns of the decade it was made. Other Western classics in my humble opinion: "DESTRY RIDES AGAIN", "SHANE" , "THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN", "HIGH NOON", "THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE", "THE OX-BOW INCIDENT", "THE WESTERNER".....and all LASH LARUE oaters !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Several James Stewart / Anthony Mann collaborations deserve honorable mention.

Good film, but not a great one. I remember seeing it at a revival house,, and couldn't understand how Stewart won BEST ACTOR ??
Also, it's Katherine Hepburn....with a "K" Witty dialogue, though, as many had in those days. Cary Grant was a favorite of mine (as was Stewart).
My favorite Grant film.....the Hitchcock classic "N BY NW" . As for Stewart.....too many to list!!

Hi JD;
You have left out "The Searchers," "Red River Valley," and the Spaghetti western series. I was slow to come to appreciate S. Leone's efforts, but since have discovered that most of his films are worth viewing over and over. And what about "Stage Coach?" and "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon?" If I thought about it, I am sure I could come up with another ten great westerns. I do agree with your list except for "Outlaw Josie Wales" and "The WEsterner," neither of which I can recall having seen.
I liked the nine best picture nominations. For once, I have seen most of them. Good selection.
Sincerely;
Dan

Hi JD;
My favorite actress (KH) and I misspelled her name. Unforgivable!
I agree with your remarks on Jimmy Stewart that there are too many of his films to list that are #1s. Cary Grant, for me, is another one. I saw "Bring Up Baby" (with Katherine H) a few years back and loved it all over again. Also "Charade," "Suspicion?" and lots more.
Sincerely;
Dan
